YA-CHEN CHEN

YACHEN CHEN (b. 2001, Taipei, Taiwan)

“Through acts of looking, absence becomes a site where memory and emotion continue to linger.”

Her practice explores how emotions and intimacy are constructed through the act of looking, using painting and material processes to continuously interrogate the fluid relationship between presence and absence. Working across oil paint, Chinese ink, image transfer, collage, and Xuan paper, Chen builds richly layered surfaces in which images continuously emerge and dissolve.
